What is your ultimate
Broadway dream?
For most people, it's to be able to perform on a BROADWAY stage, that's why Broadway debuts are so special. But for me who's obviously not a performer, my dream is to be able to stand on that same stage, not be a diva but be a dork while I get to see the behind-the-scenes.
(Actually I don't mind if you ask me to guard the stage manager's booth and watch from there. Like who gets those perks?!) Yes, indeed, it is called a backstage tour.

It is every fangirl's dream to be invited for a backstage tour. My first backstage tour was in 2014, during my brother's first trip to New York. Since it was his first time, we made sure he gets to visit most tourist spots while I managed to squeeze in a few shows. The surprise backstage tour was one of the most surreal moments of my life, and moreso because I don't even have pictures to prove it. It's probably why I should write about it, lest I forget.

I stood there, with no pictures to prove 😅
Fast forward to October 2017, I went to New York with much experience in the city. I kinda know the tourist spots, restaurants in the Theatre District, even mastered some directions, theatre locations, and shopping. It was a trip that I didn't plan, but happily chaperoned my sister so I could continue
fangirling and watching shows 'cos why not. I booked Come From Away and Wicked online, in Manila, because CFA was one of the sold out shows, while in Wicked, I had a very specific seating requirement. Then for Anastasia, Miss Saigon, and Waitress, I booked my tickets in New York to save the handling fees online.
I went to New York with the hopes for a backstage tour in Wicked. I contacted
a friend and wished and prayed that she agrees to take me in. It was probably the longest week I've ever had. After what felt like 10 billion years, I finally received a reply from her, which was "of course!"I died a little and was so nervous because I might hyperventilate out of excitement, or just be dumbfounded and awestruck. Anyway, so the day came...

I got this seat which was perfect to see everything! Tho I had to squint a little to see facial expressions.

always a bittersweet feeling to leave Oz
After the show, we went to the stage door and told the doorman that we're on the list. He let us inside and waited for some instructions. My heart was pounding!!! We rode the elevator UP to meet Ms. Kathe, the wonderful Elphie dresser. She was so kind to tour us, and I was just overwhelmed to be backstage. It felt like it took me awhile to process thoughts and emotions, appreciating every second of it all.

these flatheads welcome you as you exit the elevator

thanks to Jackie for the amazing experience!😍
I don't think I'll ever get over the fact that I was able to step on that huge Gershwin stage! If there is one slight regret, it's that I didn't ask if I can see the murals painted on the stairs nor did I ask if I can see some costumes that I'm dying to see 😩😭
but totally forgot while I was there because I was in awe. Maybe when I'll be blessed to have another opportunity, I shall request that.
Have a great weekend! I'm off to see
the wizard Evita!
